Takt MCP is designed to let an AI client retrieve useful context without granting it the ability to change your library.

Takt MCP is read-only and tied to the Takt account you authorize. A connected client can search, list, and retrieve the notes available to that account. It cannot create, edit, delete, or save notes through Takt MCP.

How authorization works

  • You add Takt's remote endpoint to an MCP-compatible client.
  • The client directs you to Takt's authorization window.
  • You sign in to Takt and grant the requested read scopes.
  • Takt issues the client an MCP access token for that connection.
  • Each request runs as the Takt account you authorized.

The client does not receive your underlying database credentials. Do not type a Takt password into an MCP JSON file or terminal command; use the browser authorization flow instead.

What the AI provider can see

When you ask a connected AI tool to use Takt, the tool receives the text and metadata that Takt returns for that request. Treat this like sharing the retrieved notes with that AI provider. Review the provider's own privacy, retention, and workspace policies before connecting sensitive material.

Takt cannot determine which client conversations or prompts you run beyond what the client sends in a tool request. For sensitive work, ask the client to retrieve only the notes you need, keep queries specific, and inspect its output before sharing it further.

Safer connection habits

  • Connect Takt only to clients and workspaces you trust.
  • Use the smallest relevant question instead of asking a client to browse your entire library.
  • Ask the client to identify the note titles and source URLs it used.
  • Clear or revoke the connection in the client if you no longer use it.
  • Keep your Takt account credentials private; Takt support will not ask you to paste them into chat or configuration files.
